Cadbury World trip – May 1st

We had a wonderful time  at Cadbury World and the children were a delight to be with.  As well as the excitement of the coach trip and smelling / eating chocolate, we all learnt lots about the Mayans.

Well done, lower school!

Summer Term

Welcome to the Summer Term – we’ve so much excitement still to fit in this year!

We all love the Rainforest topic (curriculum map below), with its trip to Cadbury World and focus on chocolate …

Thanks for your support learning spellings and times tables at home with your child – the correct list for each child will be in their planner each week.

February 2024

Our Jigsaw topic this half term has been ‘Dreams and Goals’.  All the children have worked hard thinking about their goals – both in and out of school – and how to handle things when they are achieved, and when they face disappointment.  Our final project involved some great teamwork and resilience – we’re sharing Birch’s potato photos as they were also VERY funny!

Welcome back and Happy New Year!  Lower school have had a great start to 2024, bringing their usual enthusiasm and lovely learning behaviours.  We’ve a lot to get into a short half term (see the overview below) and are looking forward to all of our learning.  The spelling lists are also below – check your child’s planner for which ones are being tested each week.

December 2023

What a wonderful Autumn Term lower school have had!  We’ve got such a lot of learning done, and have been working really hard.  We’re sure you’ll agree that our Christmas performances – both in school and in the community – were a huge success.

We’re really proud of all the children, and hope they’re really proud of themselves too.

Here are some pictures from our Temple trip in November (taken by the children), and our Stone Age art and Design Technology projects this month.  We really enjoyed our Stone Age day last week, but were too busy learning to take photos!

November 2023 – Welcome back!

We hope you had an enjoyable half term and are ready for the run up to Christmas!

Lower school are all very excited about the adventures ahead:  this half term’s curriculum plan is below, and the spellings that Year 3 and 4 are learning in the next three weeks.

We are also looking forward to working on our Christmas production, which will be performed on Wednesday December 20th at 4pm and Thursday December 21st at 2pm. (More details will follow nearer the time).

Thanks for all the home reading you’re getting done.  We see the benefits of this in all the work we do in class.  It really helps pupils to read or discuss their book at least 3 times a week.  A  short comment / emoji from you each time helps us celebrate reading in class.  The children can start to make these records themselves too.

Wednesday, 27th September 2023

We have had a very exciting day today as we have had a special visitor coming to school. Robin Hood and Maid Marian came to visit us today! We had the chance to ask them a few questions and took some pictures.

Ash class also got their Purple Mash logins today – feel free to start exploring.

September 2023

Welcome to the new school year!  We have had a fantastic start with our new classes.

Thanks to those of you that came to our ‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions on Tuesday – it was lovely to see you.  Here’s the presentation for everyone: it has our contact details if you have any questions.

Y3 4 Information For Parents

We’re grateful for your support of your child’s learning and in our meetings we discussed how you can reinforce this learning at home.  To get into good ‘back to school’ habits, it would be great if you can make time to read regularly with your child (their book band descriptions are in their planners), to practise their spellings (these will be tested on Thursdays in Ash and on Mondays in Birch) and to work on their times tables.  We’ll be using Times Tables Rock Stars in school, and an information leaflet is here too.

Any conversations you can have about our topic – the Stone Age – will also help embed your child’s learning.  The topic web with all our subjects can be found here:

30/3/2023

The children have had a brilliant half-term! We finished our topic ‘The Vikings’ by designing, making and evaluating our longships. Have a look at some of the examples, they are fabulous!

We wish you all a very good Easter break and are looking forward to the Summer term!

23/3/23

The children were really lucky to take part at an Easter workshop, run by the Rylands Community Church. The children enjoyed the workshop and have learnt about Easter in different ways. They were a credit to our school.

World Book Day

Well done to all the children for bringing in their props for their favourite characters.

We had a good guess in class!

The children have had a lovely day reading books and learning about the authors. We ended the day with a whole school assembly, where each class presented something about the author they have been learning about.

Can you work out what characters the children were?

February 2023

This term we will be continuing our work about the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. Please see the topic overview below.

We have had a very busy week in year 3 this week. On Tuesday, we went to visit the Canal Side Heritage Centre in Beeston, learning about Diwali. We have completed 3 different activities:

  1. We have read the story of Rama and Sita
  2. We created some beautiful Diva lamps out of clay – these will be sent home soon
  3. We completed a scavenger hunt, learning about Diwali!

On Wednesday, we have had our second Let’s get session at school – this is to reward us for our great behaviour. Children picked different activities like Football, Board games, Cooking or Sewing.

Have a good half term everyone!
